Last summer I had an opportunity to have a long conversation with a doctor that was interested in learning more about fibromyalgia and the people that have it. He was a nephew of friends and they had told him about how my recovery was going. I have come a long way and he truly wanted to understand fibromyalgia. He had been told that I was wheelchair bound for many years and was bed bound for over ten years. My regular doctors had given up on me when I found a protocol called SHINE that changed my life when I was willing to follow it to the letter.
His opening question was “Dose depression cause fibromyalgia?” I laughed to myself as I considered my answer. Then I ask him a question, “If you went to dozens of doctors, they do thousands of dollars of tests, they can’t find anything out of the (normal) so they say there is nothing wrong with you, but you hurt so bad you can’t stand it, would you become depressed?”
Our conversation went on from there with me explaining all the things that I went through and the “treatment” in the form of pills that the doctors used to “help” me. What effects all these chemicals had on my body and the number of times the doctors nearly killed me with their treatments.
I then explained how a naturopathic doctor decided not to treat my symptoms but find out what the cause of them was. He did some blood test but also used his ability of clinical observation to determine what was wrong with my body. He looked at things that no other doctor looked at. My adrenal glands were not functioning at all and my thyroid was being under treated. He taught me that what was “normal” for other people was not good enough for people with fibro/cfs. My levels had to be higher than what was considered “normal” to be effective for me because of the effects the fibro/cfs had on my body.
The first thing he did was prescribe an IV solution full of nutrients and rich in vitamins to kick-start my recovery. This delivered them directly into my bloodstream so they got to the cell level quicker. He also gave me an additional IV solution to help with my fibro fog. I had no idea if this would work but as I took these IV’s over several weeks the changes were evident. In just two months I was driving again after having to give up my license sixteen years before. In four months I was walking a mile a day without the help of the wheelchair I had used for so long. Also in five months my pain had diminished to the point that I no longer needed the may chemicals that the doctors had prescribed.
I was taught how to maintain my progress by using supplements that replaced the IV’s and I continue to use them today. Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum MD has helped me along the way and with his help I teach people with fibro/cfs how to find out what nutrients and supplements are right for their underlying problems so their bodies can start to heal. This evolved into a workbook and series of workshops that I have used in groups along with many personal coaching sessions that teach others how to start their recovery. If you will take that same step of faith and try something different and you are willing to follow your personal treatment plan you can see your health change for the better. Just like the dramatic changed to my life and all the things that I have been able to do like ride a horse or ATV. We have helped many be able to do things that they never though they would do again.
